The Robert C. Olsen Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering was established to show appreciation for “the excellent education and experience” Robert Olsen received as a mechanical engineering student at The University of Texas at Austin and to help encourage and support future students.

Olsen believes that what started at UT expanded his future opportunities and changed his life.

“When I entered UT as a freshman I found a very competitive academic environment, a university with a long history of success, and an excellent faculty with high expectations of performance,” Olsen said. “It was a challenging yet energizing learning environment and a great place to develop and strengthen life success skills.”

After graduation, Olsen began his career with Exxon, where he worked in upstream oil and gas managerial positions across the United States, Malaysia, and Russia. He then lead ExxonMobil’s business in Australia and later the producing businesses in the Europe, Caspian, and Russia region.

Olsen retired in 2013 as the executive vice president of ExxonMobil’s global production company and as a member of the Board of Directors of Imperial Oil Limited, Canada’s leading integrated petroleum company.

He and his wife, Sue, currently live in Houston and have five children and two grandchildren.
