Charles and Barbara Peck Endowed Scholarship

Nov 2, 2006 | Scholarships

Charles and Barbara Peck both graduated from The University of Texas at Austin — Charles from the College of Engineering with a BS in petroleum engineering, Barbara from the College of Education with a BS in education, minoring in business and English. Since graduating in the early ’60s, they have maintained strong ties to the university, serving as members of the Chancellor’s Council and as life members of Texas Exes.

Their son Douglas also attended UT, receiving a BS and PhD in chemical engineering. In addition to recruiting UT graduates to work at his company, Douglas serves on the Cockrell School of Engineering’s External Advisory Committee for the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering.

In 2006, the Pecks created the Charles and Barbara Peck Endowed Scholarship to benefit undergraduates pursuing engineering and education degrees. The award alternates between the two disciplines each year, with a preference for Houston-area students who have financial need. The Pecks feel that educating young people to become teachers will help us to build a better future, and that engineers are key to building the infrastructure necessary to support new ideas and improve our communities.
