When it was time for Larry West to apply to college, he applied to just one: The University of Texas at Austin. Born into a Longhorn family, Larry’s father and older brother are both UT alumni, and Larry dreamed of following in their footsteps. He was accepted to the McCombs School of Business, arriving on campus in 1980, Larry became active in many clubs and organizations, joined a fraternity, and played intramural sports. As a sophomore he was invited to join the Texas Cowboys. As a junior he served as rush captain and later president of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1984 with a BBA in finance from McCombs. After graduation, he earned a law degree, and he currently practices law in Houston.

He is proud of each of his achievements, but the friends he made and relationships he built at UT are what have affected him through his life. In October 1989 Larry married Sarah Hicks. Shortly after they were married Sarah began accompanying Larry on trips to Austin and Sarah established her alliance to UT. The couple has three children, Dillon, age 19; Harrison, age 17; and Cameron, age 15. When it came time for their oldest son, Dillon, to look at colleges, his first choice was UT. His résumé was impressive: president of the student body, president of the honors council, captain of the football team, and recipient of the headmaster’s award for the most outstanding student. Nevertheless, Larry and Sarah were thrilled upon hearing the news that Dillon had been accepted to UT. He now attends as a freshman. Larry and Sarah are proud to establish the Larry and Sarah West Endowed Presidential Scholarship to benefit the McCombs School of Business, and the couple looks forward to being involved with UT for many years to come.

Update April 2019: Dillon graduated from McCombs  in 2015; Harrison received a BA in Liberal Arts in 2017, and an MS in Finance from McCombs in 2018.
