Pat and Jane Kneip Patterson Swimming and Diving Endowment

The Pat and Jane Kneip Patterson Swimming and Diving Endowment was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on October 3, 2014 to benefit The University of Texas Intercollegiate Athletics. The endowment honors Pat and Jane Kneip Patterson. Gift funds were provided by Mr. William F. Robertson, Mr. Darrell Gilbert Fick, and Mr. Scott Calhoun Mactier.

Darrell Fick came to Texas from California as a National Junior College record holder in the fall of 1975 to join the swim team.

“Coach Pat Patterson was the difference-maker for me. He was a tremendous leader of young men and instilled the great love of Texas that our whole family has today,” Darrell said. “When I had the chance to step up and be part of a legacy in Coach Pat's name, it did not take long. Everything I have today is because of this great man and the opportunity he gave my great Longhorns teammates and me.”

Darrell has excelled in two career paths: One as a Division I college swimming coaching in a Power 5 Conference, and one in the world of healthcare in the pharmaceutical industry.

“Both of my degrees were in education and because of what I learned at Texas , I was able to cross into two different careers and blend it with the great experiences I had as a competitive swimmer. Life is a race, and I learned how to race thanks to the great sport of swimming,” he said.

Darrell continued: “There is no greater honor than to share our good fortune of a University of Texas education and my experience as a Longhorn student-athlete than to honor the coach who made it happen for my family and me.”
