The Anna Lee and Alexander Chang Endowed Scholarship

Resources

The Anna Lee and Alexander Chang Endowed Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System in 2015 to benefit the College of Natural Sciences. Gift funds were provided by Mr. Alexander T. Chang and Mrs. Anna T. Lee.

Alexander and Anna Chang grew up in Hong Kong. She moved to Canada to go to college, and he came to the United States for college and graduate school. After graduation they moved back to Hong Kong, where they both worked for a high-tech company before immigrating to Toronto. They later moved to the San Jose area, and after two years there, to Austin. They currently live in Durham, North Carolina.

The Changs’ children, Leslie and Jonathan, both graduated from Dean’s Scholars Honors Program in the College of Natural Sciences, in 2013 and 2014, respectively. They are both currently pursuing medical degrees at Duke Medical School in Durham.

“During their years at The University of Texas at Austin, the scholarships Leslie and Jonathan received not only provided financial support for their tuition and fees, they also were a source of recognition and encouragement for them to continue to work hard toward their goal of a medical career,” says Alexander. “Our whole family was blessed with scholarships and financial aid that enabled us to pursue our higher education degrees.”

With the quality of education and enriched research experiences provided by the university, the Changs say their children grew both academically and socially.

“We value education and believe in everyone’s potential to grow, mature and prosper through a good postsecondary education. We believe The University of Texas at Austin is the best place for one to learn how to think, innovate and understand one’s position in the greater community. We are firm supporters of ‘What starts here changes the world,’” says Alexander.
Funds distributed will be used to provide scholarships to undergraduate students in the College of Natural Sciences’ Dean’s Scholars Honors Program.
