The Charlotte Herzele Excellence Fund for Nutrition Study Abroad was established by the Board of Regents in 2014 to benefit College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. This excellence fund provides scholarships and support for students wishing to participate in the Nutritional International Study Abroad program. Recipients must be students who have financial need or who would otherwise be unable to participate in the program without scholarship support.

Charlotte Herzele graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970 with a B.A. in English. In 1990 she earned an M.Ed. in kinesiology and in 1997 earned a Ph.D. in nutritional sciences. In 2016 she gained a Master’s of Public Health from the Medical School of Wisconsin. She is a professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences in the School of Human Ecology.

Herzele was inspired to create this endowment by her family's tradition of giving back. Her happiness and success are directly attributable to her education at Texas. She values traveling and believes that all students should study abroad.
