The Emily Maverick Miller and Emily Miller Wells Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Art was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on June 8, 1989, for the benefit of the College of Fine Arts. Gift funds were provided by an anonymous donor, Mr. J. W. Bartholow, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, a 1940 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering, Mrs. Mary M. Bartholow of Dallas, Texas, a 1946 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts, and friends of the university. The endowment honors Mrs. Emily Maverick Miller of Houston, Texas, a 1907 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts and Mrs. Emily M. Wells of Houston, Texas, a 1942 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts.
