The Warren J. and Viola Mae Raymer Professorship was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on March 18, 2003, for the benefit of the College of Natural Sciences. Gift funds were provided by the Warren Joseph Raymer Estate of Houston, Texas, Viola Mae Raymer Family Trust of Houston, Texas, and Warren J. Raymer Testamentary Trust of Houston Texas. The endowment honors Mrs. Viola M. Raymer and Warren J. Raymer, M.D. of Houston, Texas, a 1942 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts.

The Warren J. and Viola Mae Raymer Chair was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on September 30, 2002, for the benefit of the College of Natural Sciences. Gift funds were provided by the Warren Joseph Raymer Estate of Houston, Texas. The endowment honors Mrs. Viola M. Raymer and Warren J. Raymer, M.D. of Houston, Texas, a 1942 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts.

Warren Raymer and Viola Mae Glover married in 1945 and enjoyed many happy years together until Viola’s death in 1997. Viola was very supportive of Warren’s service to others through his medical career.

Dr. and Mrs. Raymer would be very pleased that their endowment is being used to support research and education in the field of natural science. Dr. Raymer had a deep interest in allergy and immunological research. He served as president of the American Association for Clinical Immunology and Allergy from 1981 to 1982. He was a member of the medical advisory panel of the Texas Air Control Board, served on the Gulf Coast area pollution resource committee, and was chairman of the weather and air pollution committee of the American Academy of Allergy. He served on many other committees in the medical field. Dr. Raymer was a member of the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical, and American Medical Associations.

The Raymers were lifelong supporters of The University of Texas at Austin, as well as devoted and avid University of Texas Longhorn football fans. They treasured their friendship with members of the University family and attended every UT football game they could.

Warren Raymer graduated from Kennedy High School, in Kennedy, Texas, in 1938. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1942 and Baylor College of Medicine in 1947. Dr. Raymer served his internship and two years of a residency in internal medicine at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. He then completed a fellowship in allergy at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. After the fellowship, Dr. Raymer enlisted in the US Army and served from 1952 to 1954.

Dr. Raymer was an associate and then partner in the Houston allergy Clinic from 1954 until his death in 2000. Through his work as a dedicated physician, he helped many people who suffered from allergies. Dr. Raymer was on the medical staff at Hermann Hospital, the Methodist Hospital, Diagnostic Hospital, and the Park Plaza Hospital, all in Houston.
