Geoffrey Schechter Endowed Excellence Fund for the BBA Program Office

Geoffrey Schechter, BBA ’84, had many great professors as a student at the McCombs School of Business, but the one he was closest to taught at the Cockrell School of Engineering: Dr. Bob Schechter, his father. As a child, Geoffrey saw firsthand the passion of the educator’s profession. “Having grown up with a professor, [I know that] they are there to help,” he says. “So reach out to them and make them a part of your life. They really like to teach and want students to learn.”

Geoffrey’s daughter now attends UT, and he hopes that she, too, makes the most of her professors. “I want to let people know that there are people out there who care,” he explains. “Students need to take advantage of what people are doing for them.”

Geoffrey is one of those providing generous help to students—not as a professor, but through the Geoffrey Schechter Endowed Excellence Fund for the BBA Program Office. This funding helps undergraduate programming, including admissions, recruitment, student organizations, study abroad, and other leadership opportunities. Philanthropic support like Geoffrey's helps elevate the quality of these programs from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

“I wanted to make an impact and help more people over an extended period of time,” he says of his reason for funding the endowment. “It impacts the community by helping UT keep costs down for students, and it gives UT a better way to see what the future holds.”

“I have fond memories of growing up on the campus, and now my kid is at UT. Because of this, I wanted to give back by helping others.”
