The Lomis Slaughter, Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Sculpture was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on February 9, 1995, for the benefit of the College of Fine Arts. Gift funds were provided by Mr. Benjamin M. Anderson of Houston, Texas, a 1939 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Jackson School of Geological Sciences and Mrs. Mary Anderson of Houston, Texas. The endowment honors Mr. Lomis Slaughter, Jr. of Houston, Texas, a 1937 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering.
