Liz Tait graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in January of 1969. Her mother-in-law, Harriet Boyd Tait, also attended UT Austin. Liz’s son Mark and daughter Morgan later became the third generation of Texas Longhorns. UT was always an important part of the Tait family’s life, not only when they lived in Texas but when they migrated to Florida and New Jersey as well.

Dave Tait was married to Liz for 39 years. The couple raised four children together: Becky, Deb, Morgan, and Mark. Dave passed away on December 23, 2008, from a sudden heart attack.

Dave was an avid Texas Longhorns fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching UT softball games as it brought back many memories of his kids. He and Liz had season tickets. Their enthusiasm for the team began after Dave retired and they moved to Austin.

Dave received his BA from North Texas State University in Denton in 1969 and his MBA from TCU a few years later. In 2003 Dave retired after working for Johnson & Johnson for over 28 years. This job took Dave and his family to Florida for seven years, then to New Jersey for 13 years, before retirement brought them back to Texas.

After some thought, Liz and her family agreed that a softball scholarship would be a lasting memorial to Dave’s love of the game, as well as his love for The University of Texas at Austin.

Dave’s mother was an accounting student, as was his daughter, Morgan. When Morgan completed the five-year PPA program and became a CPA, Dave donated to create an endowment in his mother’s name, the Harriet Boyd Tait Memorial Scholarship in Professional Accounting. The Dave Tait Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Softball follows his tradition of honoring family through endowed scholarships.
