Barbara Hall Chamberlain Endowed Graduate Fellowship
Having just earned her diploma, she enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1942 and served until 1945. She was an operating room nurse in Maryland, Kansas, and California, where she provided care to soldiers with devastating injuries who were transferred stateside to receive surgeries and treatment.
Barbara and Nugent started their family after the war, and while raising their sons Barbara found time to volunteer in the local hospital in Baytown, Texas, and welcomed neighborhood children into their home, where they benefited from her kindness.
Barbara kept her nursing license active until her death in 2011. Her family has chosen to honor her memory and dedication to the field of nursing with the Barbara Hall Chamberlain Endowed Graduate Fellowship.
