Caroline and Claire Straty Endowed Scholarship

May 15, 1996 | Scholarships

The Caroline and Claire Straty Endowed Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on May 15, 1996, for the benefit of Intercollegiate Athletics. Gift funds were provided by Laurie Jo Straty and Stephen M. Straty of Dallas, Texas to honor their daughters, Caroline and Claire Straty.

“Helping other student-athletes is an honor and a privilege.”
– Stephen Straty

Stephen Straty graduated in 1977 with a degree in finance. He lettered in football from 1975-76, earned highest honors, and was awarded an Ex Students Scholarship Award for achieving the highest GPA. In 1979, he received his Master’s in Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business.

“Playing football teaches one that when you get knocked down your only feasible option is to get back up and work harder,” Stephen said. “Life has a funny way of teaching you that it’s not how you start the journey, but how you finish it. It’s not the setbacks you experience in life that are important, but how you react to them. I funded this endowment to help support a wonderful university which helped shape my life. Athletics have always been a big part of my life, and helping other student-athletes is an honor and a privilege.”
