Davila Family Endowed Scholarship in Pharmacy
The Davilas were known to be a close-knit family that thrived on serving community members and leading economic development in their area. Rudy Davila earned his BS in pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin in 1955.
He and his wife, Dorothy, have two children, Rudy and Rosette, pharmacists at Davila Pharmacy. Rudy’s wife, Jackie, also is a pharmacist. All are UT graduates.
Davila established the Davila Family Endowed Scholarship in Pharmacy to support students in financial need. The scholarship is one of the largest endowments in the College of Pharmacy’s history and has contributed to the success of numerous students.
A pharmacy leader and humanitarian, Davila advocates for independent pharmacies, has been a member of the UT College of Pharmacy Advisory Council for many years, devotes time and resources to improving his community and employing individuals, and is committed to nurturing pharmacy students, especially those with great potential but limited resources.
One colleague noted that Davila has changed the lives of people in his community by giving them much-needed medical resources and employment opportunities and by revitalizing the neighborhood. Despite his career and contributions, Davila is known to be humble, quietly helping his neighbors, family, and friends.
