Durel and Jean Reid Family Endowed Scholarship

Jul 3, 2014 | Scholarships

Don and Melissa Reid created the Durel and Jean Reid Family Endowed Scholarship to honor Don’s parents. Don graduated UT with a BBA in 1988 and a JD in 1993. The fund was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on July 3, 2014, to benefit The University of Texas Office of Student Financial Services.

Durel Reid is a graduate of the UT Pharmacy program. Jean was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, but a Longhorn fan as well! In 1968, Durel and Jean moved to Eastland, Texas. They owned and operated the local corner drugstore, Eastland Drug, until 1986.

Durel and Jean served Eastland and its residents in many capacities over the years, volunteering at their local church and other organizations. Durel was mayor of Eastland from 1973 to 1974 and served on the Eastland City Commission.

Through the Reid Family Scholarship, Don and Melissa hope to continue the positive impact that Jean and Durel had on the Eastland community.
