Jean Cheever Endowed Scholarship in Theatre and Dance

Jan 15, 2016 | Scholarships

The Jean Cheever Endowed Scholarship in Theatre and Dance was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on January 15, 2016, to benefit the College of Fine Arts.

Jean Cheever, a respected Broadway theater producer, speaks with authority about business, theatre and the business of theatre. She produced the Tony-award nominated Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and the off-Broadway musical comedy The Toxic Avenger.  She has served in controller and audit leadership roles for a global accounting firm and a major industrial company, as a member of the Board of Broadway Bank (San Antonio’s largest independently owned bank, founded by her grandparents Col. Charles E. Cheever Sr. and Betty Cheever) and as a director of StemBioSys, Inc. Holder of an M.B.A from UT Austin, she returned to campus as a champion of the theatre and dance programs.

Not content to be an avid and enthusiastic audience for students in the performing arts, Jean wants to educate future performers about the economic realities of the theatre, preparing them to make practical life and career choices and to partner knowledgeably with other theater professionals. The scholarships provided by this endowment will enable talented theatre and dance students to develop the skills and industry understanding they will need to follow their dreams.
