Korsh & Ally Jafarnia Endowed Scholarship

Mar 31, 2017 | Scholarships

For Dr. Korsh Jafarnia, The University of Texas is his professional home as well as his alma mater. He earned his B.B.A. in International Business UT Austin in 1991. In 1996, he received his M.D. from The University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. After a residency at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship at Harvard Medical School, he came home to Houston. Dr. Jafarnia serves at multiple health centers in the Houston area. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is also on the staff of the IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute, where physicians, therapists and coaches work together on uniquely designed care programs for their patients.

Dr. Jafarnia’s specialty is treatment of the hand and upper extremity. He is a prolific author who writes and blogs about trends he observes among his patients, including “Selfie Elbow” , fishing-related injuries, and the effects of stress on workplace-related musculoskeletal disorders. This scholarship is yet another expression of his involvement with the health of young people. He is a volunteer at the Shriners Hospital for Children and was one of a group of providers who completed 1000 sports physicals for students in the Spring Branch Independent School District in 2017.

Without financial aid Dr. Jafarnia would not have been able to complete his education, and thus when the time was right for him to make a gift to UT he and his wife Ally chose to fund an undergraduate scholarship based on student financial need. They created an opportunity for future Longhorns to see their dreams of a UT education come true. The Korsh and Ally Jafarnia Endowed Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents on March 31, 2017.
