Archie C. Roberts Family Endowed Scholarship in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering
Archie’s work and travels at the Institute inspired his son, Jon, to follow in his father’s engineering and geoscience footsteps. Jon attended UT, graduating with a BSEE in 1979. He went to work at Mobil Oil (now ExxonMobil) and leveraged his UT degree into a long career in the geophysical exploration sector of the energy business.
Jon’s son Matthew has continued the family’s association with UT and the energy business. He completed his BS in petroleum engineering in 2009, and after finishing his MSPE in 2011 at UT, will begin his career at Chevron in their Rock Mechanics lab. The family has endowed this scholarship in an effort to advance the education of today’s electrical and petroleum engineering students so that they may study to find innovative solutions to meet the world’s growing energy needs.
